In Loewe’s Barcelona store, all four walls surrounding a small courtyard were made into vertical garden. The courtyard is 7m high and located behind tall buildings, so light levels are very low. The architects wanted a wall with a geometrical layout of the plants.
Strong plants like Hedera helix, Chlorophytum comosum and Ficus pumila have been used for the darkest areas, and higher up there are species like Heuchera 'Obsidian', Heuchera 'Lime Marmelade', Tiarella cordifolia, Polystichum setiferum, Polystichum polyblepharum and Aspargusn 'Sprengeri'. The plants were chosen for their contrasting colors and growth habits in order to bring out the boundaries of the geometrical shapes.
