With the mild and humid climate of Sintra, this fern thrives in the area.

Serra de Sintra is located next to the Atlantic, some 30km west of Lisbon city center. The local climate here is strongly influenced by the proximity of the ocean, with frequent mists and rain even when the skies are clear in nearby Lisbon. Within the forest covering the small mountain, Davallia canariensis (Davalliaceae) grows as an epiphyte, normally in the lower, not too exposed parts of a tree. It is also found growing on the ground or covering rocks.
