Gorges de la Fou is a canyon located in the eastern part of the Pyrenees, not far from the town of Arles-sur-Tech. The canyon is up to 250m deep and around 1,700 meters long. The passage between the mountain walls is very narrow, sometimes only a few meters, and at times very dark. A comfortable and protected walk is made above the stream that lingers in the bottom of the canyon, so it’s very easy to explore.
The steep rock walls, although many times never exposed to direct sunlight, are sometimes almost covered in vegetation. Common, and interesting plants for the vertical gardener to find here are Ramonda myconi, Hypericum androsaemum, Adiantum capillus-veneris, Polystichum setiferum, Daphne laureola and the pictured Asplenium scolopendrium.
